fresh-cut

Spanish fresh produce association Coexphal and its member growers have formed a new added-value company, Alcoex Mediterraneo, under which they will open Almeria’s first dedicated facility for preparing fresh-cut fruit and vegetables early next year.

The new company, which is composed of Coexphal members Cabasc, Nature Choice, Casur, Canalex, Murgiverde, Vicasol, Cajamar and El Grupo, is set to begin production between March and April 2009 with a forecast annual output of 12,000 tonnes.

In a statement, Coexphal said the companies had invested approximately €5m in the new venture, with an additional 30 per cent of the funding was being provided by the regional government of Andalusia.

Alcoex Mediterraneo is being planned as a facility for the development, innovation and production of fresh-cut fruit and vegetables, intended for use by caterers, restaurants and consumers.
