Andalusia has launched a new five-year initiative aimed at encouraging the growth of organic agriculture in the southern Spanish region and overcoming the challenges that the sector faces at the present time.

The initiative, called ‘Ecoplan 1’, has been designed to put in place strategies to stimulate the development of organic production between 2009 and 2013, the Andalusian government said in a statement.

The project, which is being led by the region’s Producción Ecológica Andaluza, will also seek to aid the marketing and distribution of Andalusia-grown organic products.
