Fresh Produce India

Renowned expert on Indian retail and consumer trends Arvind K Singhal will kick off this year’s Fresh Produce India conference, which meets in Mumbai on 2-3 April.

Mr Singhal, the chairman of leading management consulting company Technopak Advisors, will address delegates on the big changes that are sweeping India’s retail and consumer markets and what they mean for doing business in the country both now and in the future.

Technopak Advisors has 28 global offices and counts the likes of Walmart, Birla Group and Reliance Industries among its major clients. The company is a pioneer in tracking consumer and retail trends in India and publishes several authoritative studies, such as Indian Consumer Trends and India Retail Report.

Mr Singhal, who is recognised as a pre-eminent expert on India’s retail sector, is a regular contributor to various publications, and writes a bi-weekly column for India’s Business Standard.

India’s incredible consumer market growth and the rise of modern food retailing across the subcontinent – not to mention the country’s huge horticultural capacity – make this a market that serious players in the fresh produce business cannot afford to ignore.

Following the unrivalled success of the first-ever Fresh Produce India in 2007, India’s only international conference event for the fresh fruit and vegetable business returns on 2-3 April this year.

The two-day conference and networking event, which brings together buyers and sellers from across the world, will take place at the deluxe Hyatt Regency Hotel close to Mumbai’s domestic and international airports.

Mr Singhal will be the first of an impressive array of expert speakers to provide delegates with incisive information and analysis on what is one of the world’s most exciting markets for the fresh produce business.

Through six conference sessions, Fresh Produce India will explore in detail developments in all sectors of India’s fresh fruit and vegetable business, including exports, imports, food retail, corporate investment, consumer trends and logistics and supply chain technologies.

Session themes include: ‘Dealing with the downturn: the export challenge’; ‘Rise of the corporates: possibilities and pitfalls for investors’; ‘New solutions to the old `supply chain` problems’; ‘Where to now for modern retail?’; and ‘Capitalising on the consumer market opportunity’.

The sessions – designed to generate discussion and debate – will provide delegates with valuable insights into how to make the most of the huge opportunities the Indian market offers. Although significant challenges remain, early entry partners who take the initiative now are sure to be the long-term beneficiaries of India’s rapid emergence.
