Sunkist Growers' has announced the appointment of Dr. Thomas Chao to the position of resident horticulturalist, working as part of the Fruit Science Department at the US-based group.

Dr. Chao had previously held roles at Thermal Plaza Nursery in California, where he managed citrus nursery tree production, and at the University of California-Riverside where he held the role of extension specialist and horticulturalist in the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences.

'Thomas brings extensive horticultural expertise to assist our growers with cultural issues,' said Russ Hanlin, Sunkist president and CEO. 'His experience as an extension specialist, researcher, nurseryperson and grower uniquely prepared him for this position.'

In his new role, Dr. Chao will address citrus issues in-depth, such as looking at new varieties, marketing windows, growing locations, maturities and potential challenges in production.

'I am pleased to be joining one of the world's leading citrus organisations,' said Dr. Chao. 'Sunkist is a strong organisation with a large grower base in diverse growing areas and environments, which offers great production and marketing advantages. I look forward to contributing to the talented team that is Sunkist's Fruit Science Department and working with the growers, packers and marketers who contribute to making the Sunkist name so respected.'
