Belgian supermarket group Delhaize has reportedly launched a new discount format called Red Market, which features a number of new initiatives that are aimed at delivering competitive prices and increasing the ease of shopping.

According to retail analyst IGD, the format is being trialed at a 2,000m2 site in Gembloux, Belgium, with some 5,400 product lines, over half of which are private label products.

Delhaize Belgium CEO Michel Eeckhout said: 'We want to benefit from customer segmentation, while improving our price perception and our price-value perception.'
