Turkish minister of state Kursad Tuzmen has announced that the country is planning to boost exports of citrus fruits to US$800m this year.

“Recent narrowing in world markets caused a 28 per cent decrease in our exports in January,” Mr Tuzmen told the AA in the southern Turkish province of Mersin. “However, our exports of citrus fruits climbed by 31 per cent. Turkey exported citrus fruits worth US$141m in the first month of the year. Last year, Turkey's exports of citrus fruits amounted to US$585m. We are planning to increase this amount up to US$800m this year.”

“Russia topped the list with exports of US$46m, “ he said, “followed by Iraq with US$22m, Ukraine with US$16m, Romania with US$11m and Saudi Arabia with US$9m.”
