Six European organic organisations, including the German Association of Organic Food Producers (AöL), have signed a letter addressed to Jean-François Hulot, head of unit for agriculture and rural development at the European Commission that calls for the swift introduction of an EU organic logo.

Exporting nations are said to be especially affected by the unclear situation surrounding the use of the EU organic logo, which is in the process of being changed. Outside the EU, the USDA logo is quickly gaining in importance.

The signatories suggest a quick solution to the problem. Since the German organic label has become quite successful both nationally and internationally, they recommend altering the label to include a reference to Europe, as well as wording that is easily adaptable to the necessary language.
