Andalusian interprofessional horticultural association Hortyfruta is this week undertaking a promotional campaign in the UK aimed at increasing awareness of the Spanish region’s fruit and vegetable exports with supermarket buyers and consumers.

During the whole of this week and next week, the organisation will stage food tastings as well as a series of meetings with leading retail chains and media outlets.

According to Hortyfruta managing director María José Pardo, the objective of the promotional programme is to focus attention on Andalusian fruit and vegetables.

From 25-27 February, Hortyfruta said it would be staging product tastings in the central offices of leading UK grocery retailers, such as Asda and Waitrose, while product samples will be delivered to fresh produce buyers at each of the country’s principal supermarket chains.

Hortyfruta promotions in the UK will be supported by a dedicated website (www.andalusianfreshproduce.co.uk), which includes information on varieties and methods of production.

The Almería-based organisation also recently played host to visits from a number of leading Spanish consumer associations as part of a targeted effort to drive public awareness of the positive environmental work carried out by many Andalusian growers.
