Andres Cuartero Ruiz, former president of the Spanish Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Producer and Exporter Associations (Fepex), has passed away at the age of 75 following a long illness. Mr Cuartero led the organisation from its creation in 1987 until December 2006. He also served as vice-president of tomato group Bonnysa among other roles.
During the annual meeting of the World Apple and Pear Association at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, the organisation elected Alessandro Dalpiaz of Italian association Assomela as its new president for the next two years. Mr Dalpiaz takes over from Pierre Pérès of ABPM, Brazil. Kevin Moffitt of USA Pears was elected vice-president.
Luciano Trentini (pictured) has been elected as the new president of Euroasper, the European asparagus association, for the next three years. Mr Trentini, director of Italian marketing and research organisation CSO and vice-president of Areflh, takes over from Patrick Aumede.
Shipping line NYKCool has announced major changes to its senior management, with the departure of present chief executive Mats Jansson and chief operating officer Lars Rutberg. Boris Gersling, presently regional vice-president in charge of NYKCool’s activities in South America, has been named as the company’s new CEO.
Rich Amirsehhi, chairman of the board of Naturipe Farms, has announced that Bruce Peterson has stepped down as the firm’s President and CEO. In a statement, the Florida-based berry grower-marketer said that Mr Peterson, who has been with the company since 2007, will continue to serve the company as a member of the board of directors.
Cees van der Hoeven, former CEO of Royal Ahold, has had his conviction for involvement in the 2003 accounting scandal upheld by the Amsterdam Appeals Court. Michiel Meurs and Jan Andreae saw their sentences cut, while Roland Fahlin’s acquittal was upheld.
A number of speakers have been confirmed for FRESH2009, which takes place in Valencia on 28-29 April, including Tomás Garcia Azcarate of the European Commission, Jelger de Vriend of Innovative Fresh, Gé Happe of Ahold and Francisco Contreras of Edeka.
