French banana producers and importers brought together under the National Chamber of Independent Banana Producers (CBIS) have developed a project to create an interprofessional organisation whose aim would be to boost consumption of bananas in France, according to French weekly FLD.
Consumption of bananas per capita in other European countries such as Spain, Germany and the UK is almost double that in France.
The organisation would focus on two main activities: improving the offer, in terms of quality and packaging, and organising promotional campaigns.
It would group together the producers (Assoban), the importers (CSIB) and the ripeners (UFMB), as well as the retailers and wholesalers.
According to FLD, if all goes according to plan, the new organisation could be up and running before the end of the year.
