Agrexco peaches

Israel-based Agrexco has revealed that its first stonefruit exports of 2009 are on their way to Europe, with the first shipment containing peaches and many more including apricots, nectarines and plums set to follow.

Included in this year's stonefruit range, most of which are grown in northern Israel, is a new orange apricot variety, with a sweeter flavour and a deeper purple-red colour.

'This year's exports will reach last year's record of 5,000 tonnes, in spite of the economic crisis,' said group product manager Davidi Hayman. 'Europe is the target for stonefruit because Europeans appreciate premium fruits and their unique tastes.

'Our goal is to offer new, tastier varieties with redder inner texture,' he added.

Meanwhile, pear shipments are also set to commence, with Agrexco offering a new 'Red Ruz' variety for 2009.
