Carrier Transicolds 700th container

US-based Carrier Transicold has hit a significant milestone after producing its 700,000th refrigerated container since shipping its first unit in 1968.

The container was received by Maersk Line, the world's largest shipping company, as part of a substantial order of the group's new PrimeLINE units.

'We are proud of our 22-year relationship with Maersk and pleased that out 700,000th unit – fittingly a primeLINE unit – has joined a fleet that is helping to push the environmental record of marine shipping to the next level,' said Chiou Fun Sin, vice-president of Global Container Refrigeration. 'When you are the biggest player in your respective markets, leadership is a responsibility. We are delighted that Maersk Line has chosen Carrier's EcoDriven solutions to help advance its exemplary environmental issues.'

Carrier's PrimeLINE containers are some of the most energy efficient available, the group said, and are each equipped with QUEST (Quality and Energy Efficiency in Storage and Transport).

'The PrimeLINE unit scored well in the Total Cost of Ownership model that Maersk Line uses to assess reefer machines,' said Thomas Heller-Njor, Maersk Line's manager of strategy and procurement. 'In conjunction with QUEST, it meets Maersk Line's aspirations for energy reduction and efficiency. This not only has a beneficial effect on costs of operation but assists in reducing emmissions in line with Maersk Line's environmental mission.'
