Ahold

Dutch retailer Ahold has reported an increase in sales of 15 per cent for the first quarter of 2009, to €8.7bn.

Operating income was up by 18 per cent to €396m, according to the group, while net income fell by 25 per cent to €196m.

CEO John Rishton commented: “In our first quarter we continued to make good progress with our strategy for profitable growth. We had strong sales and solid margins in the Netherlands and the US, despite the challenging environment.”
