The first edition of the new Fruit Attraction trade show is already drawing a significant number of companies from the fresh produce industry, with over 200 already confirming their participation at the Spanish event.

Kicking off at Feria de Madrid on 4-6 November, Fruit Attraction will draw companies from across the country's major production regions as well as boasting strong institutional representation, headed by the Spanish Ministry for the Environment, Rural Areas and Fisheries, according to event organisers IFEMA and FEPEX.

Attempts to drum up support for the event through a series of promotional presentations in key production areas such as Murcia, Almeria, Huelva and the Canary Islands have proved successful, the event organisers said, and are set to continue for the next few weeks until it has covered the length of the country.

The event takes place in two halls at IFEMA, across a net exhibition area of 27,000m2, and revolves around three key sections of Produce, Product Suppliers and Distributors and Services.

'In short, the Fair aims to become a grand business forum for producers, suppliers and retail clients, as well as a meeting point for the industry as a whole and a means of promoting innovative developments in all areas relating to the production and trading of fresh fruit and vegetables,' the organisers said in a statement. 'This new fair will provide a showcase for the industry's output, highlighting fruit and vegetables in all their rich diversity and the producers' considerable know-how.'
