Sunfresh Avocados

Halls International has announced that the first container of Queensland-grown Hass avocados has arrived at the Port of Felixstowe in the UK.

The move comes after 10 months of negotiations with avocado and tropical fruit marketer Sunfresh in Australia, according to the group.

'We have developed a strong relationship with the prominent Australian Sunshine State growers and now can place over 20 tonnes of the high quality Australian fruit into our UK and European outlets for their appreciation,' said Halls International director Paul Devlin. 'The wholly natural process to keep the fruit clean, green and sound on arrival has been an outstanding success.'

Both Halls and Sunfresh demand high standards of quality and environmental responsibility from their growers and suppliers, according to Halls, with the fruit delivered to Felixstowe meeting these standards.

'The fruit was carefully selected and packed so as to ensure that specific requirements of the EC markets and the high standards that Halls International insist upon were met,' said Sunfresh chairman Tom French. 'We are delighted with the condition of the fruit after a substantial sea voyage from Australia and have every confidence that the quality will meet the stringent demands of European consumers.

'With this demonstrated success we are now in a confident position to satisfy our UK partners' orders for Sunfresh's Class 1 fruit,' Mr French added.
