Chiquita Germany and Austria has revealed that its managing director and former business director for Central Europe Stephan Weist (pictured) Stephan Weistleft the company on 1 July. Mr Weist has been replaced by Ernst Schulte, who joined Chiquita from Unilever Germany in an interim capacity at the start of 2009 and was previously buying director of Unilever Foods as well as business director of German firm Food Marken.

Seatrade has announced that long-serving chairman Marnix van Overklift is retiring after 36 years to pursue private business interests and professional activities in the shipping community. As a result, Gerry Pepping has assumed various new responsibilities within the group.

Univeg has announced the appointment of Rudi De Becker as member of its board of directors, replacing Robert-Jan Van Ogtrop.

Ahold has appointed Jan van Dam, general manager of the retailer’s Etos drugstore operation, as the new president and chief executive officer of Albert/Hypernova in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He replaces Johan Boeijenga, who is due to leave on 10 August.

Francis Van Der Elst has been elected as the new head of UNFD in France, replacing Gilles Vignaud. Mr Vignaud has chosen to devote himself fully to his responsibilities as president of Interfel.

Italian fresh produce giant GF Group has announced the appointment of Roberto Gregori as managing director of its Moño Azul subsidiary. Mr Gregori (pictured), Roberto Gregoriwho was formerly commercial director of Expofrut, Argentina’s largest fresh produce export company and now part of the Univeg Group, took up the position on 7 July. He succeeds Alessandro Gandolfo, who is stepping down as managing director but will continue in the role of company president with responsibility for “other projects in GF Group”, according to a statement by the company.

Deaths

Enrique Martinavarro Dealbert, vice-president of major Spanishcitrus exporter Martinavarro and the man largely responsible for theshape of the modern company, has died following a long illness.

Awards

Industry veteran Alick Glass, founder of Glass Associates Limited, has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to the sector after being handed a lifetime achievement award at the UK’s annual Re:fresh awards.
