George Bush snr famously denigrated the humble broccoli, while his son once posed for cameras eating a cob of raw sweetcorn plucked straight from the plant, but current US president Barack Obama clearly has a taste for what constitutes good publicity in the North American fresh produce trade.
Visiting a branch of supermarket chain Kroger's in Bristol, in the US state of Virginia today, Mr Obama stopped to inspect shelves adorned with fruit and, having ensured one of his presidential aides had the necessary cash to fund an impromptu snack, plucked a peach and tucked into the fruit.
Observers in Hungary won't be surprised, however. 'Barack' means 'peach' in Hungarian…
