AMS-WellPict European

UK-based soft fruit company AMS-WellPict European has gone into administration, according to a report on FreshInfo.com.

The website reported that the company had struggled with cash-flow problems for some time and that it had reached a decision at the end of July to appoint an administrator, although it will apparently continue to trade once they have been appointed.

Jon Sopher of business recovery specialist MayBinghamSopher told FreshInfo.com: We have been trying to put a solvent solution in place by talking with the banks, but we have been unable to do that.

According to the report, industry insiders estimate debts at AMS-WellPict European to be worth millions of pounds, with some Spanish suppliers said to be owed money from deals dating back to December last year.

US firm WellPict Berries, which licensed AMS to use the WellPict name in Europe but otherwise has no commercial ties, said it was unsure what would happen to the WellPict brand.
