Dutch marketing organisation The Greenery has revealed plans to establish a new sales unit that will focus exclusively on managing accounts with discount retailers.

The unit is expected to be operational from the start of 2010 and will work independently from the company’s six other units, which manage sales to Benelux, Germany and Scandinavia, the UK, southern Europe, Russia and Central Europe, and overseas markets respectively.

Explaining the move, general director Philip Smits told Fruitnet.com that the company was seeking to offer a more dedicated service to its discounter clients.

“We normally serve retailers country by country, but the discount segment requires a more unified strategy which focuses on the smaller ranges and controlled sourcing required by this type of client,” he said.

The retail sector accounts for an important share of The Greenery’s annual turnover, making up around 43 per cent of the total figure during 2008, compared with 38 per cent from the wholesale sector.

The Greenery BV is currently organised into five main divisions: domestic sourcing, imports, sales, marketing and special subsidiaries.
