Demand for New Zealand apples and pears remains strong this season, according to Pipfruit New Zealand. Cox Orange and Royal Gala have been 'eagerly' accepted in Europe, achieving slightly higher prices than in 2007. Pipfruit NZ predicts a national crop of 70,000-75,000 tonnes in 2008, down 20 per cent on the pre-season estimate.
