Israeli retailer Super-Sol has announced that it turned out a higher profit during the third quarter of 2009, compared with the same period during the previous year.

The country's largest supermarket chain revealed that net profit for the quarter hit €11.4m, up from €10.7m last year – the result of lower costs, Reuters reported

Greater profit was achieved despite a fall in sales, down to €522.5m from €524.3m in 2008, attributed to increased competition in the sector.

Same store sales for the three-month period dropped 1.6 per cent as a result of lower prices, Super-Sol said.
