Danish shipping company Maersk Line has announced that it has extended its Asia-Europe AE10 (east and south china, south-east Asia to northern Europe, Poland and Scandinavia) service into the Port of Gdansk, Poland, as one of the off-peak capacity and slow steaming innovations being implemented on the group's Asia-Europe services.
The move represents the first direct connection between China, south-east Asia and Poland, Maersk Line said, and is in line with the company's target of delivering 'outstanding, innovative cargo services'.
Service changes will enable AE10 to offer coverage between Asian ports and Poland to the rest of central and eastern Europe, including improved feeder connections to the Baltic and Russia. As part of the reshuffle, Dunkerque will be removed from the AE10 service, although this will not affect total capacity in Asia-Europe trade.
The new port rotation for the AE10 service is Ningbo, Shanghai, Kaohsiung, Yantian, Hong Kong, Tanjung Pelepas, Le Havre, Felixstowe, Zeebrugge, Gdansk, Gothenburg, Aarhus, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kobe, Nagoya, Shimizu and Yokohama.
Maersk Line said that the first westbound sailing would leave Shanghai on 1 December 2009, with the first eastbound sailing setting off from Gdansk on 6 January 2010.
