The Southern Africa Europe Container Service (SAECS), which consists of member groups Safmarine, Maersk Line, Deutsche Afrika Linien and Mitsui O.S.K Lines, has announced that it is to introduce an additional container service between South Africa and Europe.
The move, according to the group, has primarily been made to accommodate the seasonal increase in refrigerated exports from South Africa to Europe during the peak period between February and August next year.
Under the SAECS Reefer Express banner, the service will be flexed in terms of frequency and ports of call depending on the seasonal demands of the market, and will supplement the capacity provided by the existing weekly SAECS Core Service.
According to the group, the service is scheduled to begin in February 2010, with further details to be released in due course.
