Winds of up to 100 km per hour, which have hit Spain’s Valencia region, have caused substantial damage to crops, including citrus, persimmons and vegetables.
The northern province of Castellón – the centre of much of Valencia’s citrus production – was particularly badly affected, with some zones reporting that up to 20 per cent of their Clemenule mandarin crop had been lost.
According to Valencian association La Unió, some citrus production was damaged by moving branches, while other crops, including persimmon, fell on the ground as a result of the high winds.
