Agrexco strawberries 09

Agrexco is to begin exporting this season's crop of Carmel-branded strawberries at the end of the month, with shipments set to run through until the end of March 2010.

The group's offering will be lead by the Yuval and Orly varieties, both of which are described as having unique traits such as sweetness, full red colour and long shelf-life, while also boasting high levels of vitamin C, folic acid, dietary fibres and important minerals.

Agrexco said that the fruit would again be shipped by sea following lastseason's 'successful logistics experiment' that proved strawberriesresilience to this type of transport.

Yuval and Orly strawberries were developed by Fertiseeds, an Israeli group specialising in cultivating unique berry varieties. According to Agrexco, the groups are continuing to invest in developing new varieties, with the exporter owning exclusive worldwide distribution rights.

The fruit is grown in the Sharon Plain during the autumn, which this season was mild allowing for steady absorption of sunlight.
