Cameo apples on tree

A competition to find the tastiest apple variety at the National Fruit Show, which took place in Kent, UK, saw the Cameo apple come out on top for the second consecutive year.

Judged by a panel of six experts, the variety beat off competition from over 100 fellow entries to win the taste award at the largest competitive gathering of commercially grown topfruit in the UK.

Cultivated in Washington State in the US, the Cameo is thought to be a cross between a Golden Delicious and a Red Delicious, and is grown across the state.

The apple is available commercially from October through until July.
