The Innovations Pavilion at this month’s 20th Agro-Mashov Expo in Israel is poised to showcase a range of exciting new fresh produce varieties and developments, including garlic for lazy cooks, caramel fruit and innovative mushroom products.

This year’s event is scheduled to run from 13-14 January 2010 at the Fairs & Conventions Centre in Tel-Aviv where visitors will have the chance to see recent innovations in global agriculture, water-saving solutions, and new varieties of fruit and vegetables.

Among the products being highlighted at the show is a new variety of mini-garlic that has been developed by Oshri Asher specifically for cooks that would prefer to avoid peeling the product.

In a statement, exhibition organisers said that the mini variety did not require peeling, but boasted a strong flavour like conventional garlic that could be used for cooking.

At present, production of the mini-garlic is in its initial stages, although its backers believe that it will perform well in local and global markets whe launched commercially.

Fellow Israeli company Tzafon is also launching a new range of exotic mushrooms that it says will allow Israeli growers access to the world markets, with a particular emphasis on western Europe and the US.

Among the varieties on show will be the Black Poplar Mushroom or Pioppino, which is aimed at meeting “increasing demand” in western countries for organic mushrooms.
Sapodilla, or Caramel Fruit, is also expected to be one of the main attractions at the Expo.

According to organisers the potential of Sapodilla, which boasts a sweet flavour similar to dates, is already being discovered by food manufacturing companies worldwide.

The 20th Agro-Mashov Expo will also include a number of symposiums on topical subjects and expects delegations from all over the world, including Turkey, the Palestinian Authority, Ethiopia, Kenya, Italy, China and the UK.
