Ashdod

Israel’s port of Ashdod has announced that it handled some 77,967 TEU (807,000 tonnes) imported from China in 2009, making China the port’s largest source of containers. Ashdod also handled 1,023 TEU of exports to China, according to Port2Port.

Turkey came in at second, with 45,510 TEU imported into Ashdod and exports to Turkey standing at 6,412 TEU.

Following Turkey was Italy, with 44,520 TEU imported and 19,071 TEU exported, Belgium, with 44,167 TEU imported and 17,325 TEU exported, Germany, with 23,607 TEU imported and 11,408 TEU exported, and Egypt, with 19,822 TEU imported and 19,791 TEU exported.

Vietnam ranked seventh, with 18,799 TEU imported, followed by Spain (14,790 TEU), the Netherlands (13,530 TEU) and the US (12,879 TEU).
