Peruvian table grapes exports totalled some US$72.9m in value between January and November 2009, up 11.5 per cent on the year-earlier period, according to data compiled by the country’s Central Reserve Bank (BCR).

The figure includes an export balance of US$26.4m for the month of November alone, BCR said, an impressive growth of 314 per cent on the previous month, according to a report by Living in Peru.

Last year’s US$72.9m result is Peru’s highest table grape export value since 2005, following the US$11m achieved in 2006, US$10m in 2007 and US$18m in 2008.

Peru exports table grapes across the world, mainly to the European Union, Asia and North America.

The country’s leading exporters include El Pedregal (which represents 25 per cent of sendings each year), Sociedad Agrícola Drokasa (18 per cent) and Complejo Agroindustrial Beta (12 per cent).

Combined, the groups account for 55 per cent of Peru’s annual table grape shipments.
