Delhaize Group has announced that it has appointed Kostas Macheras, the current chief executive officer of Greek subsidiary Alfa-Beta Vassilopoulos and Romanian operation Mega Image, to its executive committee.
Mr Macheras, who has been with Delhaize since 1997 when he became general manager of Alfa-Beta, took up his new position on 15 January, the Belgium-based retailer said.
In his role at the helm of Alfa-Beta, the group has grown to become the second-largest national food retailer in Greece, boasting 216 outlets and revenues close to €1.5bn.
'This promotion reflects the impressive achievements of Kostas Macheras and the highly respected contribution of Alfa-Beta to the growth of Delhaize Group,' said Pierre-Olivier Beckers, president and CEO of Delhaize. 'The executive committee looks forward to adding Kostas Macheras' longstanding retail expertise to the team for the benefit of Delhaize Group.'
