Mcdonalds kiwi stick wide

The Italian arm of multinational quick-service restaurant operator McDonald's is to launch an innovative new fruit snack in outlets across the country.

The ready-to-eat kiwifruit, sourced exclusively from within Italy and packed by Ferrara-based company Macè Fruit, will be added to the menus of the company's 392 Italian restaurants from 9 March.

As reported in the Italian press, the product will be sold under McDonald's' own fruit brand Le Frescallegre and will be served individually, pre-peeled and on a stick at a price of €1.

The 'fruit stick' format was apparently conceived with the aim of boosting consumption among women and children.

At various times of the year, McDonald's Italy sells a number of other fruits under its Le Frescallegre brand, including fresh-cut pineapple and apples, as well as grapes.
