Maersk - ship's bow

Danish shipping giant Maersk Line has announced rate increases on its services from Asia to West Africa.

According to the group, trading conditions for the carriers operating in these markets are currently subject to deteriorating rate levels, with the situation unsustainable in the long term.

The rate increases are necessary to continue to operate services with high levels of reliability that Maersk Line's customers have 'come to expect', the group noted in a statement.

Rate increases on the service between the Far East and West Africa will amount to US$250 per TEU, effective on 1 April 2010.
