Peru Fruit Logistica

Peruvian fresh fruit and vegetable suppliers are set to benefit from trade deals worth an estimated US$44m during the course of 2010, following participation at two major industry exhibitions in Europe, according to a report by Andina.

Peru’s Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) estimates that buyers and importers who attended Fruit Logistica (the fresh produce industry’s leading trade show) will purchase some US$33.5m-worth of products from Peru this year.

“They were attracted by the high quality of the asparagus, by the creamy texture of avocados and the sweet flavour of Peruvian grapes,” said a PromPeru spokesperson. “Other products that caught their attention were citrus, mangoes and artichokes.”

A number of Peruvian fresh produce exporters exhibited last month at Fruit Logistica under the auspices of PromPeru, including Danper Trujillo, Complejo Agroindustrial Beta, Hellman Logistics del Perú and Greenland Perú, among other companies such as Camposol.

Additionally, PromPeru estimates that Peru’s attendance at organic product expo Biofach will result in over US$10.5m-worth of overseas sales in 2010.

The 17-20 February show, also held in Germany, saw participation from companies including Machu Picchu Trading, Exportadora Romex, Cooperativa Agraria Industrial Naranjillo, Ecoandino, Agronegocios La Grama, Asociación Bos and Andenatura.
