Last week, the southern French region of Perpignan experienced a sudden bout of unseasonable weather, including severe winds and heavy rainfall, causing concern among local cherry producers.
However, according to Emmanuel Eichner of organic producer Alterbio, an examination of the trees revealed that no fruits had been lost.
'The cherry harvest begins next Friday, and our producer partners have announced a good production forecast,' he told Fruitnet.com. 'We expect to produce around 25 tonnes of organic cherries this campaign.'
Alterbio nevertheless remains cautious. 'The conditions remain unstable,' said Mr Eichner, 'with weather forecasts predicting storms for this week.'
