In Germany, consumption of Fairtrade rose for the sixth year in a row in 2009, TransFair recently announced at its annual press conference.

Consumers in Germany bought certified Fairtrade products worth €267m, which corresponds to an increase of some 26 per cent over the previous year.

General manager Dieter Overath commented: “The reasons for the extra sales besides increased consumer demand are the larger variety of fair products, more licensed partners, a greater commitment by the trade and the increased number of places to buy.”

TransFair now offers a new service on its website, allowing users to trace the journey of individual products by entering their Fairtrade code.
