Agrexco Early Sweet Grapes 2010

This season's table grape offering from Israeli fresh produce exporter Agrexco has commenced, with the first of the Early Sweet variety heading to key markets in Europe.

Early Sweet grapes, which will be marketed by Agrexco until mid-June, are one of the most popular varieties on offer from Israel, the group noted in a news release.

The popularity of the variety is driven by is sweet taste, 15-17 per cent brix, with the grape boasting an edible and transparent, 'almost invisible' skin, Agrexco said.

Early Sweet grapes are expected to reach customers almost a fortnight earlier than in 2009 because of the warm winter weather in Israel, with this year's yield proving a success in terms of both quantity and quality.

Agrexco's grape season extends from mid-May to September, the result of a wide cultivation range encompassing climatic conditions and the number of varieties on offer.

The group said that this year's export offering will begin with Early Sweet grapes and will be followed by Superior (mid-June to August), Thompson (mid-July to mid-September) and Red Globe (July to mid-September).
