Shelf Life Booster (SLB) technology by Hefestus could help to double, or even triple, the shelf-life of a wide range of mushroom products, while also maintaining a sensitive texture, aesthetic look and unique taste.
That is the verdict of Israel-based technology creator Hefestus, which has carried out "many months" of extensive research and development on edible mushrooms in leading European laboratories.
Hefestus conducted trials with various mushroom varieties as well as experiments on packing lines of mushroom producers, fine-tuning SLB to suit the needs of mushroom producers and of the produce itself.
According to the group, the proprietary SLB technology remains the "finest alternative" to vacuum packaging, enabling a more effective supply chain and broadening potential markets for mushrooms.
"Hefestus' SLB technology is the only method in the world today which enables the significant lengthening of shelf-life in fresh fruit and vegetables, and the only method that protects their sensitive nature," the group noted.
"Since mushroom producers grow various types and pack them in different trays, Hefestus technology enables quick set up and crossover from one type to the next – thus considerably improving production and extending availability of various types of fresh and attractive mushrooms in the market."
