Peru mangoes

Peru has recorded an almost doubling in the value of its fresh and dried mango exports during the first four months of 2010, according to a report by the country’s exporter association Adex.

Fresh and dried mango exports totalled some US$61.9m in value between January and May, an increase of 48 per cent in comparison to the same period last year.

The Netherlands ranked the largest importer, receiving US$25.3m worth of the fruit, or 41 per cent of the total, reported Adex’s market intelligence system Adex Data Trade.

The second-largest receiver was the US, representing US$21.6m of sales or 35 per cent of the crop – up 72 per cent on the first four months of 2009.

The UK followed with 8 per cent of the trade, as well as France, Spain, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Chile, New Zealand, Japan, Italy, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Portugal and China, among other destinations.

This year Peru has exported for the first time fresh and dried mangoes to Japan, Portugal, China, Puerto Rico and Colombia, among other countries.
