The Austrian authorities have agreed to align their pesticide maximum residue levels (MRLs) for peaches, nectarines, plums, apples and kiwifruit with those permitted in Italy, signalling a major step forward for Italian exports to the country.

The agreement, which was brokered by Italian fresh produce marketing body CSO with the support of the Italian embassy in Vienna, has been welcomed by Italian exporters, some of whom have experienced difficulties in gaining entry for their products into the Austrian market.

'This is a really important result,' confirmed CSO director CSO Luciano Trentini, 'It will allow Italian companies to export their products more easily to what is a key market and one that appreciates the quality of our production.'
