Portuguese company RAR Group has agreed to acquire the southern England salad grower andmarketer Vitacress, which is the largest supplier of watercress, baby leaf spinach and rocket in Europe.
The acquisition, which issubject to approval by the Portuguese competition authority, is due to comeinto effect on 30 June.
Vitacress has around 1,200ha of land in the UK,Portugal and Spain and reported a turnover of £81m (€102m) in 2007. The business is expected to fit in neatly with Wight Salads Group, a leading UK tomato producer, which RAR Group purchased in 2007.
