The Mexican berry industry is gearing up for its second berry conference, which takes place on 4-6 November in Zamora in the state of Michoacán.
Coordinated by national association Proberries via an organising committee, the event is designed to strengthen the Mexican berry sector by uniting suppliers of blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries to discuss the latest trends, innovations and concerns.
“This second congress aims to provide a platform to communicate the common interests of all players in the Mexican berry industry,” Luis Pulido Estrada who heads up the event’s organising committee, told Fruitnet.com.
“We will come together to share information about new varieties, production techniques and technological innovations in order to further steer the Mexican berry sector in line with international market requirements and consumer demands while still working in harmony with the environment.”
The conference programme will feature a particular focus on marketing techniques and the opportunities for Mexico to expand its global presence.
Sessions will also take a look at a number of other issues, including: new varieties as a way to boosting quality and productivity; the benefits of using evergreening systems for blueberries; alternative production techniques for strawberries (without the use of methyl bromide); and how to protect plant breeding rights in Mexico.
The event expects to attract both locals and internationals, with industry players set to attend from countries including the US, France, Spain, the UK, Belgium, Chile and Guatemala.
