BEST Helius sorter

Belgian sorting machinery specialist BEST has announced that it has launched a new version of its Helius free-fall sorter, demonstrating the 'great results' of the group's continued investment in research and development.

The machine, designed to be the ideal platform for sorting fruits, vegetables and nuts, now boasts a new camera for shape recognition to go alongside the lasers used for foreign material and discolouration.

'This new configuration is a revolutionary improvement to the existing Helius, it now combines the efficiency of laser detection on foreign material and discolourations, and the shape recognition on products in free-fall,' the group said.

According to BEST, existing Helius sorters can be easily upgraded at a minimum cost to the new extended version, with the Helius 1200 model outfitted with a brand new ejection system, using a smaller pitch.

The new model of the Helius free-fall sorter went on display for the first time at the IPA fair in Paris on 17 October.
