Carrefour Poland is planning to open 200 Carrefour Express stores each year in the Eastern European country from 2011 onwards, portalspozywczy.pl has reported, a move that will be achieved through the introduction of an improved franchising model.

Quoting the website's report, Planet Retail revealed that the expansion will cover both small and large cities across the entire country, adding to the 60 franchised stores that already exist on the major Gdansk-Krakow-Warsaw axis.

'This (basing 60 stores around the three cities) was due to the proximity of our warehouses, now we want to develop the logistics so that stores are created throughout the country,' said managing director Jean Anthoine.

The Polish Carrefour Express stores are expected to have a sales area of between 100m2 and 500m2.
