Camposol asparagus

Peru’s largest agribusiness Camposol has revealed it is preparing several point-of-sale activities in selected German towns for its expanding white asparagus business, according to a company press release.

The group is convinced that “a stronger promotional impulse” during the peak periods of Christmas and Easter will encourage increased consumption of the vegetable among German consumers.

After receiving positive feedback from satisfied customers regarding theproduct’s quality and freshness,Camposol expects an increasing number of European distributors and supermarkets to buy and stock white asparagus through late 2010 and into 2011.

“Consumers are becoming aware of Camposol as a supplier of high quality produce, which is largely thanks to our year-round asparagus offer”, explained chief commercial officer Michael Horney.

“The positive consumer response motivates us to strengthen this trend by developing marketing activities which are aimed directly at the consumer in order to further introduce our brand,” Mr Horney added.

To facilitate direct communication with customers and consumers, Camposol’s website is now available in several languages (Spanish, English, German, and Dutch) and offers a range of information on the company’s history, product range, product safety, social responsibility, as well as a photo gallery.

The asparagus market in general is growing from season to season, according to Camposol, and while Germany continues to be the most important market for white asparagus, the group claims new markets are also emerging in Poland and Russia, among other destinations.

As of week 45, white asparagus exports from Peru totalled 1.15m (5kg) cartons, and with a share of 45 per cent, Camposol is by far the biggest exporter of Peruvian asparagus today.

Harvesting at the company is currently in full swing, with the pre-Christmas period marking the beginning of Camposol’s first main season for white asparagus in 2010/11, ahead of the second peak period in Easter.
