Hefestus has revealed that it will be displaying its innovative Shelf Life Booster packaging technology for extending the shelf life of fruit and vegetables at Fruit Logistica 2011, which takes place at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds on 9-11 February.

In a statement, the Israeli group invited visitors at the trade show to experience what it describes as a 'comprehensive solution' for extended shelf-life of fruits, vegetables and fresh-cut salads.

'The major obstacle to purchasing ready-to-eat, fresh-cut fruits and vegetables is their typically short shelf life, responsible for quick degeneration and decomposition of the product, not to mention undesirable appearance and negative palatability,' the group explained. 'SLB technology overcomes this challenge by extending shelf life beyond standard packaging and reducing accumulation of product decomposition liquids in the package bottom.'

To acheive optimal, long-lasting shelf life, Hefestus packages pre-cut fruits and vegetables in Modified Atmosphere Packaging via a new, patented sealing method – SLB – therefore extending the life of produce without using synthetic preservatives.
