Organic vegetables

A new report from US-based research organisation the Worldwatch Institute has suggested that industrial agriculture is not the best means to tackle global hunger and climate change.

Named 'State of the World: Innovations that nourish the planet', the report strongly supports the role of agroecological farming methods in developing food security.

Emma Hockridge, head of policy at the UK's Soil Association, commented: “This excellent and timely report provides overwhelming evidence for the expansion of agroecological farming systems, such as organic, to achieve food security for all.

“Organic farming systems benefit biodiversity, are resilient in the face of climate change, and have been shown to improve yields and the ability of poor communities in the Global South to feed themselves.”
