The new 2011/2012 Board of Directors for the Avocado Producers and Exporting Packers Association of Michoacán (APEAM) was recently sworn in by the Mayor of Uruapán, Antonio González Rodriguez during a gala event in Uruapán, Mexico.
During the event, Mayor Rodriguez credited APEAM for making Uruapán and the state of Michoacán, a benchmark leader in the global production and export of avocados, and acknowledged the association for its organisational skills, market vision and commitment to future leadership.
The swearing-in process was also attended by Mexico’s Secretary of Agriculture, Francisco Javier Mayorga Castañeda, and the country’s Minister of Rural Development, Maria del Carmen Trejo Rodriguez.
New chairman Ricardo Vega spoke about the association’s planned projects for 2011, which will include a continued focus on raising consumer demand for avocados from Mexico, as well as investment into research programmes to boost productivity and facilitate phytosanitary alerts prior to the occurrence of pests in order to prevent outbreaks.
“I am honoured to serve as the new chairman of APEAM and plan to do everything to contribute toward the continued growth and success of the world’s finest avocados,” explained Mr Vega.
