What are the UK Fruit & Vegetable Awards?
The UK Fruit & Vegetable Awards, presented by FPJ, are the only pan-industry fresh produce awards voted for by the trade itself. This fresh format, with submissions and voting all taking place online, is all about the quality of the entries and recognising the finest industry achievers. In the inaugural awards in 2015, some 100 entries were received and many hundreds of fresh produce professionals cast their votes to crown the winners.
When does it all take place?
Entries will be accepted until Friday 21 October, and will be available to view and judge in November. The winners will be announced in December.
Who is eligible to enter?
Any company or individual who works in the commercial UK fruit and vegetable industry is eligible to enter the awards. You do not need to be an FPJ subscriber to enter. See below for the full list of categories.
How do I enter?
To enter the awards, make sure you’ve got your entry prepared, and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org, stating in the subject line which category you are entering. For each entry, you should also submit a photograph for possible use within FPJ, should you be successful. We are accepting entries from now until the end of October.
How much does it cost to enter?
There is no charge to submit entries to, or vote for the winners of, the UK Fruit & Vegetable Awards.
What materials do I need to get together?
It’s never been easier to enter an awards scheme. Entries are a maximum of 250 words, so please list your achievements as succinctly as possible. A great entry details the excellent work done by the company or individual, what the objectives were, what they did to succeed and overcome obstacles and what the outcomes were. Who can vote?
The UK Fruit & Vegetable Awards are voted for online by FPJ subscribers. This is to allow us to ensure there are no duplicate/fixed votes and that the voting process is fair.
FPJ subscribers are senior professionals across the UK fruit and vegetable business, and have a deep understanding of the trade. Never before has the whole trade had the chance to recognise their peers in this way.
You can vote on as many or as few categories as you would like.

When will the winners be announced?
The winners will be announced in FPJ in December, both in print and online.
What’s the prize for winning?
Category winners will receive – as well as the pride that comes with being crowned by their peers – a smart winner’s trophy and a profile in FPJ.

As FPJ’s annual awards, the event receives widespread coverage in FPJ, before, during and after the event, giving sponsors over four months of regular exposure to readers of Britain’s leading fresh produce magazine. In addition, your name on the winner’s trophy means the prestige of being associated with the event will live on long beyond this year’s competition.

Can we sponsor a category if we’re thinking of entering the awards?
Absolutely! The UK Fruit & Vegetable Awards are voted for entirely by FPJ readers, meaning there is no conflict of interest between sponsors and judges. You can sponsor, and enter, as many categories as you like.

Have you made a major investment in production this year, developed new techniques for growing or found a novel way of working? Or perhaps done made some major work in the area of science or R&D? This award will crown the outstanding new example of innovative growing, science or research seen in the past year.
6/ Product or Packaging Innovation
Has your company launched a new product or packaging concept in the last year? Whether a new variety, a variation on an existing theme or a new way of presenting things, this is the category that recognises creative innovation.
7/ Marketing and Digital Initiative
You can have the greatest product in the world, but without savvy marketing nobody will know about it. Whether via print or TV advertising, social media, online or PR, this category recognises the best public-facing work of the year.
8/ Best Retail Concept
This category throws the spotlight on new concepts, either created by or for retailers, to improve the sale or sourcing of fresh produce. From supply chain technology to POS materials or in-store promotional strategies, this category acknowledges the role of innovation throughout the supply chain to the end consumer.
9/ Charitable Initiative
From bike rides to mountain climbs, there have been some exceptional examples of hard work by fresh produce employees to raise money for charity this year. This award gives them the recognition they deserve.
10/ Fresh Produce Retailer of the Year, sponsored by Coveris
This category is your chance to vote for which supermarket you think has done the best job of supporting the fruit and vegetable category this year. You will be able to choose from Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Morrisons, The Co-op, Waitrose, M&S, Aldi, Lidl and Iceland. Other retailers may also submit entries to be considered.
11/ Wholesale or Catering Supplier of the Year
Recognising the outstanding wholesale or catering supplier of 2016.
12/ Fruit Grower/Supplier of the Year
Recognising the outstanding fruit grower or supplier of 2016.
