The US department of agriculture is broadening the citrus canker quarantine zone to include larger parts of four counties and two further counties (Hendry and Hillsborough) in southern and central Florida. The decision to expand the quarantine areas comes after further detection of the disease, which affects citrus trees. The disease has devastated lime groves in the state but commercial fresh grapefruit production had remained unaffected. However, the USDA's animal and plant health inspection service has detected the canker in one red grapefruit grove within the quarantine zone.
