UK farm retailers have inundated National Farmers' Union offices with entries for the first best farmers' market and best farm shop awards.

Competition organisers have received over 100 entries from across the country. Judges will assess the contestants, and consider on-line comments from customers about their favourite market or shop.

NFU campaigns officer Victoria Brook said: 'The judges face and unenviable task when they sit down to pick winners for the two awards. There have been a huge number of very high quality entries. Trying to choose the pick of this crop will not be easy.' The closing date for entries was last week, and winners will be announced on November 12.
